20% Supernumerary Seats for Female Aspirants at IITs

Attention all the girls students aspiring to get into the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs)! There is an important Update.

 

The Indian Institute of Technology council has decided to increase the supernumerary seats for women candidates to at least 20 percent in the academic year 2020-21. This decision has been made to improve the gender balance in the undergraduate programs offered in the IITs.

The supernumerary seats will be created without any reduction in the number of seats that were made available to gender-neutral candidates in the academic year 2019-20. Last year, the supernumerary seats offered to the women candidates were fixed at 17 percent and this time it has been increased to 20 percent.

These seats will be offered to all those candidates who are declared capable in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2020. Based on the scores obtained, seats will be allocated to students through the counselling process. As per the Government of India norms, the reservation policy will applicable to the supernumerary seats as well.

This year, the top 2.5 lakh candidates from all the categories in the JEE Main will be eligible to take the JEE Advanced. The performance of students in JEE Main is an eligibility criterion for all the aspirants of JEE Advanced. Last year, all the candidates who were in the top 2.45 lakh in the JEE Main were given eligibility for the JEE Advanced.

The JEE Advanced will be conducted in the computer-based test mode on May 17 with the Paper-I of the exam scheduled to be held from 9 AM to noon and Paper-II from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. IIT Delhi is organizing JEE Advanced this year and the institute has made it clear that the exam is scheduled and would remain the same even if May 17 was declared as a public holiday.

The online registrations for the same could be done through the JEE Official website https://jeeadv.ac.in/ .It will start from May 1 to 6. The last date to pay fees for the registered candidates is May 7 till 5 pm. All those candidates who have successfully registered for JEE Advanced can download the admit card from May 12 to 17. The results will be declared on June 8.
