CBSE CLASS 10 CHEMISTRY: AN OVERVIEW

CBSE Class 10 is the very phase of a students’ life that shapes their future. It is the CBSE board class 10 result that decides whether the students will be able to get a preferred stream in 11th Class. Class 10 board exam is thus one of the very first milestones in a students’ life.

Class 10 has always been a grade that required extra focus and now with the release of the new, reduced syllabus by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in a post-pandemic world, students need to gear with quicky with the changes. The relaxation in the previous syllabus is definitely to reduce burden, but students’ need to get a clear idea of what’s next and hence should strategize their study routine accordingly.

Syllabus For Class 10 Chemistry

The CBSE course structure is designed in a manner to ensure that students do not go through a lot of pressure, moreover, books are made interactive and interesting for students to enjoy their studies. A lot of fun activities are included in between the chapters to help students learn in a playful way. It makes the process of conveying knowledge to the students efficient and healthy.

Chapter-1 Chemical Reactions and Equations

Meanings like Bleaching powder, Washing soda, Plaster of Paris, precipitation, neutralization, oxidation, types of chemical reactions, displacement, etc, are explained here along with chemical formulas and activities for better understanding. Apart from that the topics like chemical reactions and equations, chemical equations, types of chemical reactions, have you observed the effects of oxidation reactions in everyday life? y life? are a few topics explained in detail here?

Chapter-2  Acids Bases and Salts

This chapter is very interesting and experimental were the topics like acids, bases, and salts, understanding the chemical properties of acids and bases, what do all acids and all bases have in common? how strong are acid or base solutions? More About Salts, etc are the topics discussed here in detail with a few experiments for better understanding.

Chapter-3  Metals and Non-Metals

The topics like physical properties of metals and non-metals, chemical properties of metals, what happens, when metals are burnt in air?, what happens when metals react with water?, what happens when metals react with acids?, how do metals react with solutions of other metal salts, the reactivity series, how do metals and non-metals react?, properties of ionic compounds, the occurrence of metals (extraction of metals, ores from top and middle of activity series are discussed here), refining of metals, corrosion, and its prevention, etc are thoroughly explained with examples and by conducting experiments if need be.

Chapter-4  Carbon and Its Compounds

Homologous series Nomenclature of carbon compounds with functional groups, Chemical Properties, saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons definitions, and their differences, soaps, And detergents are explained clearly here.

Chapter-5  Periodic Classification of Elements

Dobereiner’s Triads, Newland’s Law of Octaves, Mendeleev’s Periodic Table, atomic number, metallic and non-metallic properties are a few topics that are explained in this chapter here.

As there are many activities and experiments, this chapter is one of the high priority and interesting chapters in the syllabus.
