style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The chloroplast is a type of organelle that exists in plants.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These organelles contain chlorophyll, the green coloured pigment that is responsible for carrying out the process of photosynthesis in plants.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Chlorophyll<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chlorophyll is the pigment that is responsible for the synthesis of food in green plants.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This pigment is green to its bearers and is abundantly found in leaves.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chlorophyll is locked inside the chloroplast.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Process of Photosynthesis<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The process of photosynthesis takes place in the leaves, the \u201cfood factory\u201d of the plants.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carbon dioxide is taken in through tiny pores on the leaves called stomata.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Water and minerals that are required for the process are transported to the leaves from the roots through the stem.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chlorophyll helps the leaves use the energy from the sunlight to prepare food using the carbon dioxide, water and minerals.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oxygen is released as a by-product of this process.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Nutrients Being Replenished in Soil<\/b><\/h2>\n<h2><b>Nutrients<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plants absorb mineral nutrients from the soil in order to make their own food and for other important processes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Soils need to be enriched with nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium etc. regularly.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only then can we grow plants and keep them healthy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are 17 most important nutrients for plants.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6 are called macronutrients and rest are called micronutrients.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Macronutrients are required in large quantities while micronutrients are required in very small quantities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Other Modes of Nutrition<\/b><\/h2>\n<h2><b>Symbiotic Relationship<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Organisms that live together and share their shelter and nutrients are said to be in a Symbiotic Relationship.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Certain fungi live in the roots of trees.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tree provides nutrients to the fungus and, in return, receives help from it to take up water and nutrients from the soil.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This association works well for both the fungi and the tree.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another most common example is of Rhizobium bacteria.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They reside in the root nodules of leguminous plants.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bacteria provide a plant with nitrogen that they fix and in turn, they get shelter and food from the plant.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Rhizobium<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rhizobium is a type of bacteria that convert atmospheric nitrogen into a soluble form that can be utilised by plants (nitrogen fixation).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It usually resides in the roots of leguminous plants like peas, gram, moong etc. and is instrumental in providing these plants with a rich source of nitrogen.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Nitrogen Fixation<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nitrogen is an important nutrient required for soil and for plants.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, nitrogen in the atmosphere is not easily accessible.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The process by which nitrogen is converted into a form that can be used by plants and other living organisms is called nitrogen fixation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Parasites<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A parasite is a heterotroph that completely depends on another organism for its food.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The organism to which the parasite latches onto is called the host.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The host, in the process, is deprived of all nutrients for its own growth as they are consumed by the parasite.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, Cuscuta (Amarbel) is a non green plant that takes ready-made food from the plant on which it is growing.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Saprotrophs<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Organisms which rely on dead and decaying matter for their food are called Saprotrophs.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This mode of nutrition is called saprotrophic nutrition.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, Fungi.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fungi secrete digestive juices on the dead and decaying matter and convert it into a solution<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then they absorb the nutrients from it.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Insectivorous Plants<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These plants are green and carry out photosynthesis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But, they grow in nitrogen-deficient soils.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, in order to get nitrogen, they feed on insects.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These insectivorous plants have their parts modified for attracting and catching insects.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, The pitcher plant, Venous flytrap.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Cactus Plants<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of the photosynthesis takes place in the leaves of green plants.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, in case of some desert plants, it takes place in their stem and even branches.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cacti are found in the desert and their leaves are modified to spines to avoid loss of water due to transpiration.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight:
