Top 12 Famous Mathematicians and their Inventions

Let’s learn about some of the eminent Mathematicians and how they revolutionised the field of Mathematics.

There are two distinct types of people when it comes to Math: those who are utterly brilliant at it and those for whom it is nothing less than a nightmare. But if we look at our everyday lives, math plays a significant role in it. Have you ever wondered how math makes our lives complete?

Math is used in everything, from slicing a cake into equal parts to determining weight or height. Have you ever thought who came up with and who was responsible for these mysterious mathematical ideas?

Let us share some information about 12 outstanding mathematicians and their inventions.

  • ARYABHATA

The first person to state that the Earth is spherical and revolves around the sun was Aryabhata, and he also stated that 365 days make up a year. He also introduced the equation (a + b) 2 = a2 + b2 + 2ab. He also worked on the place value system, using letters to represent numbers and describe attributes.

  • EUCLID

One of the most well-known mathematicians, Euclid was referred to as the “Father of Geometry.” The Euclidean geometry is his most well-known contribution to geometry and it is covered in class IX’s Geometry chapter. He dedicated his entire life to mathematics and made a significant advancement in geometry.

  • PYTHAGORAS

The “Pythagoras theorem” is a well-known and important mathematical formula for solving mathematical problems. We have all struggled to use the Pythagoras theorem to solve mathematics problems since we were little. Pythagoras discovered this prominent theorem and he became the father of ‘Pythagoras theorem.’ Pythagoras was from Greece, but he fled off to India in the latter part of his life.

  • BRAHMAGUPTA

The main contribution of Brahmagupta was the invention of the zero (0), which represented “nothing” in mathematics. Additionally, he included guidelines for calculating squares and square roots as well as an explanation of how to find an integer’s cube and cube root.

  • SRINIVASA RAMANUJAN

One of India’s greatest mathematical geniuses was Srinivasa Ramanujan. He worked on elliptic functions, continued fractions, partial sums, products of hypergeometric series, and infinite series in addition to making significant contributions to the Hardy-Ramanujan Littlewood circle technique in number theory.

  • ARISTOTLE

Aristotle was a brilliant student who possessed a plethora of information in several areas, including physics, mathematics, geology, metaphysics, medicine, biology, and psychology. He was a student of Plato, and both of them together discovered many philosophical theories and contributed to mathematics and Platonism. He combines mathematics and philosophy and in his treaties, and uses mathematical science in three principal ways.

  • C.R. RAO

The well-known statistician Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao, also known by C R Rao, is well-known for his “theory of estimation. Many of his results, which bear his name, are included in the curriculum of courses in statistics at the bachelor’s and master’s levels around the world.

  • ERASTOSTHENES

Eratosthenes was a world-famous mathematician known for his unbelievable and exact calculation. He was the only mathematician who put efforts to calculate the earth’s circumference and calculated the Earth’s axis tilt. Both his calculations are exact, and so he became famous worldwide.

  • HARISH CHANDRA

An Indian American mathematician and physicist named Harish-Chandra FRS made important contributions to representation theory, particularly in the area of harmonic analysis on semisimple Lie groups.

  • SATYENDRA NATH BOSE

Satyendra Nath Bose, who is renowned for working with Albert Einstein, helped India adopt modern theoretical physics. Bose made important contributions to statistical mechanics, quantum statistics, x-ray diffraction, and the interaction of electromagnetic waves with the ionosphere, as well as the single field theory’s explanation of all forces.

  • BHASKARA

Bhaskara, an Indian mathematician and astronomer, helped promote Aryabhata’s work. According to him, any number divided by zero is infinity, and any number added to infinity is also infinity. He is also famous for his book “Siddhanta Siromani”.

  • ARCHIMEDES

Archimedes was a Greek Scientist, a great mathematician, and a Physician. He also worked his entire life in search of discovering mathematical formulas that are related to Physics. The best contribution of Archimedes in mathematics is known as the invention of compound pulleys, antiquity, and screw pump. Students of class X have to study these chapters of compound pulleys and antiquity.
